Critical police faults are at heart of Texas school shooting enquiry

The state is now investigating critical errors made by police during the tragic Texas school shooting.

Following the tragedy, it has been revealed that over 20 officers waited outside a classroom at Robb Elementary School despite scores of 911 calls screaming for assistance.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is also investigating the gunman’s motive, as well as why he was not apprehended sooner after a school officer responding to a call of an armed man drove by him.

Officials reported that the gunman made at least eight phone calls to 911 from within the classroom, but officers waited in the hallway.

The school’s district police chief, Pete Arredondo, is thought to have incorrectly judged that the gunman was locked inside and that there was no immediate threat to the pupils.

According to the New York Times, Mr Arredondo is now under police protection, with two policemen from a neighbouring department stationed in a car outside his home.

After attending a funeral for one of the victims of the Buffalo supermarket massacre, President Joe Biden will visit Uvalde on Sunday to meet with the mourning town as it prepares for a litany of funerals.

“I’ll be heading to Uvalde to speak to those families. As I speak, those parents are literally preparing to bury their children,” Mr Biden said in an address at the University of Delaware.

“Let’s be clear: evil came to that elementary school classroom in Texas, to that grocery store in New York, to far too many places where innocents have died.”

The National Rifle Association (NRA) will hold its annual meeting concurrently with Mr. Biden’s condolences to the victims’ families.
