FRANCE: Anti-Macron masked demonstrators wreak havoc on Paris streets

France descended into anarchy today, with over 250 anti-Macron rallies erupting around the country. Thousands of people took part in the traditional May Day protests in Paris, which swiftly devolved into pandemonium. Around 5,000 police officers were deployed in the capital city alone to handle the violent demonstration, which resulted in store looting and street fires.

The march on Sunday comes barely a week after Emmanuel Macron was re-elected President of France, defeating his far-right rival Marine Le Pen.

Several protesters explicitly demanded that President Macron abandon his plan to raise the retirement age.

Others called for social fairness and salary increases.

Marchers carried placards that said “Retire Before Arthritis,” “Retire at 60, Freeze Prices,” and “Macron, Get Out.”

The Paris march was attended by far-left leader Jean-Luc Melenchon, who finished third in the first round of the presidential election.
