The ICC has dispatched a 42-member team to investigate potential war crimes in Ukraine

According to the ICC’s head prosecutor, the Hague-based court has dispatched its “largest-ever” team of experts to Ukraine to examine alleged war crimes since Russia’s invasion in February.

The 42-member team, which includes investigators, forensic experts, and support staff, will “progress our investigations into crimes coming under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court and provide support to Ukrainian state authorities,” according to Karim Khan.

According to him, the team will improve witness testimony collection, forensic material identification, and help guarantee that “evidence is collected in a manner that strengthens its admissibility in future cases” before the court.

Khan expressed gratitude to the Netherlands, which hosts the court, for sending a “large number of Dutch national experts” to assist the mission.

The professionals will interview witnesses, secure and analyze evidence, and assist national investigators with evidence security.

The crew will also collaborate with French forensic experts who are currently in Ukraine.

According to the prosecution, all individuals involved in the conflict area must work together effectively.
