A grenade explosion in Yemen’s southern port city of Aden on Thursday killed at least four people and injured dozens , according to a security official.

A local security source stated, on condition of anonymity, that “an explosion caused by a homemade grenade occurred inside a crowded public market in Sheikh Othman district in Aden Province.”

“Four people died on the spot, and more than 25 were left injured and evacuated to a nearby health facility for treatment,” the source added.

An individual blew his handmade grenade among a big crowd of consumers within the public market of the Sheikh Othman area, according to eyewitnesses.

No one has claimed credit for the bomb, and the local authorities in Aden have said nothing about it.

Aden, Yemen’s interim capital, has been home to the Saudi-backed administration since 2015.

Aden’s local officials are attempting to preserve security and stability.

However, intermittent explosions and drive-by shootings continue to target Yemen’s important port city.

Since late 2014, when Houthi rebels seized control of several northern districts and drove the internationally recognised government out of Sanaa, Yemen has been engulfed in civil conflict.
