Ghulam Farooq Wardak, the former Afghan Minister of Education, returned to Afghanistan on Wednesday, according to the Afghanistan news agency.

Wardak was cited by the news agency as adding, “It’s good to be back home.” he also urged Afghans living abroad to return home and serve the country after arriving at Kabul’s airport and being greeted by officials from the Taliban-run administration.

Wardak is one of thousands of Afghans who fled the nation after the US military’s loss and the Taliban’s takeover in August of last year, according to the news agency.

The Taliban-led government has established the “Commission for Return and Communication with Afghan Personalities” to entice those who have fled the nation to return.
