President Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea has appointed new ambassadors to China, Japan, Russia, and the United Nations, as per the presidential office on Tuesday.

Chung Jae-ho, a professor at Seoul National University, was chosen as the country’s first ambassador to China under the Yoon administration, which took office on May 10.

Chung taught at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology after getting his doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1993. In 1996, he began teaching at Seoul National University.

Chung, a former director of the Institute for China Studies and the Center for International Studies, was a visiting professor at Renmin University in 2007.

Former Korea National Diplomatic Academy chief Yun Duk-min has been named ambassador to Japan, while former presidential secretary for foreign affairs Chang Ho-jin has been named ambassador to Russia.

Hwang Joon-kook, a former ambassador to the United Kingdom, has been appointed as the UN’s new ambassador.
