Tunisian President Kais Saied signed a presidential decree late Wednesday dismissing 57 judges for corruption and concealing terrorism cases.

The presidential proclamation was published in Tunisia’s official biweekly newspaper, the Journal of the Republic of Tunisia.

Earlier in the day, Saied presided over a meeting of the council of ministers, resolving to press forward with “the cleaning of the judiciary.”

The president further stated that the names of judges who “disrupted investigations into a total of 6,268 terrorism files and perpetrated financial and moral corruption” would be made public.

On February 6, Saied announced the dissolution of the country’s Superior Council of the Judiciary, citing widespread allegations of corruption among local magistrates.

A week later, he signed a presidential decree forming a more transitory council to replace the dissolved one.
