LONDON: Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson, returned from an overseas trip on Friday to face various problems, including the latest resignation of a senior Conservative from his scandal-plagued cabinet.

Shortly after the troubled leader got back to Britain on Thursday from a NATO meeting in Spain, his ruling party was caught up in a new scandal involving sexual misconduct.

Chris Pincher, a Conservative MP, resigned from his position as deputy chief whip in a letter to Johnson late Wednesday night after confessing he drank “far too much” and “embarrassed myself and others.”

According to reports, he was accused of molesting two men in front of other people at London’s prestigious Carlton Club, which led to complaints to the Conservatives.

The most serious allegation of sexual misconduct against a Conservative in recent months is that he quit the job that was in charge of upholding party rules and discipline.

In April, Conservative MP Neil Parish resigned after seeing pornographic content on his mobile phone in the House of Commons, causing a by-election in his formerly safe constituency, which the party ultimately lost in a historic triumph for the opposition Liberal Democrats.

Johnson has been engaged in numerous controversies, including the so-called “Partygate” controversy, which prompted his own parliamentarians to initiate a motion of no-confidence against him in early June, which he narrowly survived.

The 58-year-old remains the subject of a parliamentary investigation into whether he lied to MPs about the lockdown-breaking parties at Downing Street.
