Instead, her remains had been burned in front of police nine days earlier.

Aayushi’s body was discovered on Friday in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, wrapped in plastic and packed into a red suitcase.

Her parents, Nitesh Kumar Yadav and Brajbala, have been detained by police in connection with the slaying, which is being investigated as a possible “honour killing.”
Honour killings, or the killing of persons seen to bring “shame” to their community, are frequently documented in India. Numerous victims are young people who go against the wishes of their families and marry persons of different religions or castes, or even those from the same subcaste.

Aayushi’s father allegedly shot her on November 17 at their house in Delhi, the nation’s capital, following a dispute about her engagement to a person of a different caste. The body was then allegedly thrown off by both her mother and father in the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh, close to the Yamuna expressway.

The couple is being held by the police and has not yet spoken.

Although the horrible killing has made news in India, where tens of thousands of crimes against women are reported each year, the police are still conducting investigations.

There was a sense of foreboding in the typically lively neighbourhood of Badarpur in southeast Delhi when a news reporter visited Aayushi’s home. After hearing what had happened to Aayushi, a neighbour claimed she had not eaten properly for two days.

She remembered, “She was quite good at studies and did well on the high school exam.

Aayushi wanted to be a software engineer while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer applications at a private college.

Her room, which is located on the first floor of their house, serves as a reminder of the daily routine, minor joys, and future she once imagined.

Her books are neatly organised on a wall shelf. A framed photograph of a young Aayushi standing beside her parents, younger brother, and grandmother is in the room.

The cosmetics she used every day, such as nail polish and lipsticks, are kept in a little cabinet. A variety of soft toys, including a little orange counterpart of the enormous Doraemon doll lounging on her bed, are hung from the wall.

Aayushi reportedly spent much of her time studying in her room and was normally quiet, according to her grandma Jamwanti.

“The past 15 days have been spent in the hospital. The police arrived when I got back and arrested my son and daughter-in-law “When asked about the matter, she responds.

According to The Indian Express newspaper, who cited police sources, Aayushi wed a man from a different caste last year over her parents’ objections.

According to police, this separation between the woman and her parents resulted in frequent arguments.

They claim that on the day of the murder, Aayushi left the house without telling anybody and that when she came back, her father was indignant.

Police reported that she passed away after being “shot twice in the chest” and that a post-mortem had shown injuries to her head, face, and other body parts.
