Zelensky says the West’s “indecision” on delivering more weapons to Ukraine is “killing more of our people”.

Mykhailo Podolyak said that every day of delay kills Ukrainians.

His comments follow Ukraine’s defense minister’s “frank debate” with his German counterpart regarding German Leopard 2 tanks, which Kyiv urgently needs to oppose Russian armor.

Germany denies preventing the transfer of Leopard tanks to foreign nations.

“Leopards 2 was discussed openly. Next, “Oleksii Reznikov remarked Friday after meeting Western allies.

Armored vehicles, air defense equipment, and ammunition were agreed to at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

On Saturday, a Reznikov adviser told  that NATO countries aiding Ukraine must be many steps ahead of the enemy.

Yuriy Sak said the West has to redefine “standing with Ukraine” beyond stabilising its front line.

“We need large tanks and armored vehicles to liberate our territory and defend our land,” he declared.

The Leopard 2 is easy to repair and designed to compete with the Russian T-90 tanks employed in the invasion, making it a possible game-changer for Ukraine.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius denied stopping Leopard supplies, saying opinions were still mixed.

German export restrictions prevent Poland and Finland from supplying Leopards unless Berlin provides the go-ahead.

“We will still have to struggle for the supply of modern tanks,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, thanking Nato for military supplies.

“Every day we demonstrate that tanks must be chosen.”

Russian weaponry outnumbers Ukraine’s ageing Soviet tanks.

European warehouses hold almost 2,000 Leopards. President Zelensky thinks 300 could overcome Russia.

Mr. Pistorius said Berlin would move fast if allies agreed, but he could not estimate when a tank decision would be taken.

International diplomacy and the memory of World War Two have stalled Germany.

After Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, its policy of avoiding providing armaments to combat zones changed.

Germany supplies artillery, air defense systems, and Marder infantry fighting vehicles, according to NATO commander Jens Stoltenberg.

Germany won’t deliver Leopards without a NATO package that includes M1 Abrams tanks. The US says Abrams tanks are too expensive and difficult to repair for Ukraine’s troops.

However, some want the US and Germany to send tanks.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin denied Berlin was waiting for the US to act. “This notion of unlocking – in my perspective it’s not an issue,” he said following Friday’s 54-nation meeting at Ramstein Air Base.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz is wary of escalating in Ukraine because of Germany’s Nazi-era damage.

Johann Wadephul, a key CDU politician in Germany, said the government’s “policy of rejection” on the Leopards will damage Germany’s worldwide standing. he asked.

Poland’s Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau criticized Germany’s hesitancy.

“Arming Ukraine to fight Russia is not a decision. Ukrainians die. Leopard delays cost this. Act now! “tweeted.

Without Germany’s tank commitment, Western countries’ billions in other armaments didn’t help Ukraine.

UK will supply 14 Challenger 2 tanks.

This week, the US pledged $2.5bn (£2bn), including armored vehicles.

The Pentagon pledged 59 Bradley armored vehicles, 90 Stryker troop carriers, Avenger air defense systems, and other equipment.
