Two people killed in explosion at US-Canada border
A vehicle exploded at Rainbow Bridge, near the US-Canada border, killing as many as two people.
The incident occurred as the vehicle was approaching a checkpoint from the Canadian side. The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined.
FBI and US Customs and Border Protection are at the scene, and the White House is closely monitoring the situation. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called it a “very serious situation” and closed four crossings.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated that state police and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force are monitoring all points of entry into the state.
The incident happened on the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday, a busy travel day in the US. Rainbow Bridge is one of the busiest crossings between Canada and the United States.
