Wednesday evening witnessed a shocking shooting incident inside a public bus that reverberated across Filipino social media platforms.

The disturbing event, captured on camera, quickly went viral. In the town of Carranglan, Nueva Ecija province, two elderly passengers, seemingly asleep in the front-row seats of a Manila-bound Victory Liner bus, were fatally shot, as revealed by police who shared video footage of the tragic incident.

According to local media reports citing a senior police official, the victims had boarded the bus from the Isabela province terminal, while the two assailants, yet to be identified, entered from Nueva Vizcaya province. The unsettling incident has sparked widespread concern and attention on social media.

“They died on the spot after being shot three times,” the officer from the Carranglan police said.

In the video footage, the bus appeared uneventful at first, with two individuals in face masks rising from the back row. Moving towards the front, they drew their firearms and opened fire on a couple.

Authorities have identified the victims as a 55-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman, presumed to be living together. Preliminary police investigations suggest that the motive behind the attack may be rooted in a family dispute.

“It seems like the woman’s child is not in favor of her relationship with the man. Another angle is that, the 60-year-old businesswoman recently filed a carnapping and robbery case against her child,” the police chief told the media. The male victim also had a child, but was yet to be interviewed.

Ongoing investigations are delving deeper, relying on the bus’s camera footage to potentially uncover the identities of the gunmen. With the viral spread of the video, Filipino netizens are advocating for enhanced security measures at bus terminals. They propose the implementation of metal detectors and rigorous screening procedures to bolster public safety.
