A group of suspected individuals carried out a nighttime attack on a police station in southeastern Iran, resulting in 11 deaths and several injuries, as reported by state TV on Friday.

The deputy governor of Sistan and Baluchistan province, Ali Reza Marhemati, revealed that senior police officers and soldiers were among the casualties in the 2 am assault in Rask town, approximately 1,400 kilometers (875 miles) southwest of Tehran. Law enforcement responded by engaging in a shootout, leading to the elimination of several attackers.

The predominantly Sunni region has witnessed sporadic attacks on police stations by militants and small groups in recent months, marking a low-level insurgency against the government.

Sistan and Baluchestan province, characterized by limited development, has been a focal point for crackdowns following nationwide protests. These protests were triggered by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody in Tehran, who was detained for allegedly violating Islamic veil regulations.
