Kuwait grants public holiday on 8 February, three-day weekend onward

Kuwaiti citizens are in for a longer weekend as the Civil Service Commission declared a public holiday on February 8, 2024 (Thursday) to observe Isra Wal Miraj.

According to the details, all ministries and government departments will be closed that February 8 to allow citizens to observe this significant religious occasion.

The Civil Service Bureau mentioned that normal work schedules will resume from February 11. The bureau recognized that certain agencies and entities have unique circumstances, emphasizing their independence to modify holiday schedules to align with public interests.

Isra Wal Miraj, which is held on the 27th day of the Islamic month of Rajab in the Hijiri calendar and means “Night Journey and Ascension” and pays tribute to Mohammed’s (PBUH) journey with God from Mecca to Jerusalem via heaven all in one night.

On this occasion, Muslims pray (optional) during the nights and in some areas, special lights and candles are lit to symbolize the miraculous journey of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
