The Indian government has taken a strict stance against the problem of exam paper leaks, imposing severe penalties including jail time and hefty fines.

In response to widespread protests by students and parents who spent a year preparing for their exams, the central government has implemented a new law across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.

According to this new rule, anyone caught sharing important exam papers, including those for competitive exams, will face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to Rs 1 crore.

The Public Examinations (Prevention of Leaks) Act, 2024, ensures strict monitoring and punishment for those involved in leaking papers for exams leading to high-level government jobs.

Students and their parents are worried that the illegal activities of the ‘copying mafia’ are harming the chances of hardworking and honest students, leading to unqualified people getting important positions.
