On Tuesday, Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman to Downing Street. Starmer’s office stated that the leaders discussed “the broad areas of cooperation between their two countries, including defense, security, and trade,” and expressed their anticipation of strengthening these ties.

Starmer emphasized the urgent need to de-escalate the Middle East situation and urged all parties in the region to exercise restraint. The prime minister reiterated the need for a ceasefire in Gaza, the return of Israeli hostages, and an immediate increase in humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Both leaders agreed on the need for a two-state solution through a peace process and expressed their eagerness to work closely together in the future.
