Birmingham Airport in central England has suspended flights and evacuated the premises following reports of a suspicious vehicle, according to police and the airport on Wednesday.
West Midlands Police stated on X that they are handling an ongoing incident at the site and advised passengers not to come to the airport at this time.
As the UK’s seventh busiest airport, which served 11.5 million passengers last year, Birmingham Airport confirmed on X that it had halted operations.
Authorities urged all passengers scheduled to fly from the airport on Wednesday afternoon to reach out to their airline and check the airport’s website for updates.
Local news outlet Birmingham Live reported that passengers are being kept on planes, drivers are being denied entry to the airport, and all transportation links to the airport have been canceled.
