Israeli airstrikes killed dozens in Lebanon and Gaza , rescue teams and authorities reported, as a US deadline for improved aid access to the Palestinian territory approaches.
Rescue workers in Gaza stated that 13 children were among 30 people killed in airstrikes in northern Gaza. The first strike of the day hit a house in Jabalia early Sunday, resulting in at least 25 deaths, including 13 children, and over 30 injuries, according to Gaza’s civil defense.
Abdullah al-Najjar, a relative of the affected family, described a massive explosion at the Alloush family home around 6 a.m. “When we arrived, the bodies were in pieces,” he said, visibly shaken.
On October 6, Israel launched a large-scale air and ground offensive aimed at preventing Hamas militants from regrouping in northern Gaza, a region the United Nations describes as “under siege.” The U.S. has set a deadline for Israel to allow increased aid access or face possible military assistance reductions. Following the Jabalia strike, the Israeli military stated that they had targeted “infrastructure” used by militants posing a threat to their troops.
Another strike in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood killed five people, according to the civil defense.
In Lebanon, Israeli strikes killed at least 38 people on Sunday, including 23 in a raid north of Beirut, reported Lebanon’s health ministry. In Almat, Jbeil district, 23 people—including seven children—were killed in an airstrike shortly after a Hezbollah member visited the area. Rescue teams were seen pulling bodies from the rubble.
Prime Minister Netanyahu’s spokesman said the Israeli leader had approved an operation in Lebanon involving the detonation of hundreds of pager devices, resulting in 40 fatalities and 3,000 injuries.
