US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Monday that he would travel to Paris on Saturday to attend the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral, marking his first foreign visit since his election victory.

The iconic cathedral, heavily damaged by a fire more than five years ago, has undergone extensive restoration work and is set to reopen its doors to tourists and worshippers later this week.

The 12th-century Gothic landmark, a cherished symbol of Paris, has had its spire, rib vaulting, flying buttresses, stained-glass windows, and intricate stone gargoyles meticulously restored. The white stone and gold accents now gleam brighter than ever.

Trump, who won the November 5 election and will assume office on January 20, praised French President Emmanuel Macron in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“President Emmanuel Macron has done an exceptional job restoring Notre Dame to its full glory, and even more. It will be a truly remarkable day for everyone!” Trump wrote.
