
At least 40 killed in weekend US tornadoes
At least 40 people lost their lives, and dozens were injured as powerful tornadoes and storms hit the central and southern US over the weekend.
Strong winds ripped off roofs, knocked down trees, and overturned trucks.
In Kansas, eight people died in a 50-vehicle crash caused by a severe dust storm. Oklahoma reported four deaths due to wildfires and strong winds.
Arkansas saw three fatalities and 32 injuries, prompting the deployment of National Guard troops. Missouri was also badly hit, with 12 deaths, widespread destruction, and entire communities left without power.
Texas recorded four deaths in vehicle accidents linked to dust storms and fires.
President Donald Trump said the government is closely monitoring the situation. Officials described the damage as overwhelming, with a long road to recovery ahead.
The US faced nearly 1,800 tornadoes last year, making it the second-highest on record.
