Karachi Metropolitan Corporation(KMC) paid homage to 3 important personalities of the city and named 3 bridges after their names.
The three personalities from Karachi who have been paid tributes include renowned poet Raees Amrohvi, renowned television, film and stage artist, Moin Akhtar and famous Qawwal Amjad Farid Sabri.
According to Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar, in today’s meeting of the city council, tributes were paid to the three personalities and approval was given to name the bridges after these personalities.
Wasim Akhtar said that the bridge at KDA Chowrangi has been named after Raees Amrohvi and the bridge at Sakhi Hassan Chowrangi has been named after Amjad Farid Sabri while the bridge at Five Star Chowrangi North Nazimabad has been named after Moin Akhtar.
It was the evening of Thursday, September 22, 1988, when the literary and public circles of the country heard this sad news. The prominent poet, journalist, intellectual, writer and 72-year-old Syed Mohammad Mehdi alias Raees Amrohvi was seriously injured in a mysterious condition and died after that.
Raees Amrohi, elder brother of Jaun Elia, Syed Mohammad Taqi and Syed Mohammad Abbas, was born on September 12, 1914, in the house of Syed Shafiq Hassan Elia in the distinguished family of Sadat Amrohvi.
Moin Akhtar, the uncrowned king of the art world, was born in Karachi on December 24, 1950. He started his career in the mid-60s, Raja Pahlawan came and then no one could stand in front of him.
Moin Akhtar died of a heart attack in Karachi on April 22, 2011, but will live forever in the hearts of his fans.
Well known Qawwal Amjad Sabri was assassinated on (16 Ramadan) June 23, 2016, in Liaquatabad. Two motorcyclists chased Amjad Sabri from his house and opened fire near Liaquatabad underpass.
His unique style and passionate voice is still alive in the hearts of the fans.
