Lahore: British-Pakistani boxing star Amir Khan has expressed strong confidence in the future of boxing in Pakistan, stating that the country possesses immense talent and, with proper grooming and promotion, can produce world-class champions.
He said that one day Pakistan will also give rise to legends like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.
Speaking to the media during the International Boxing Championship held at the Jinnah Sports Complex, Amir Khan said it was a moment of great personal pride for him, as it had always been his dream to organize such a major boxing event in Pakistan.
He shared that boxers from 15 countries participated in the championship, praising the enthusiastic crowd and the exceptional security arrangements.
Amir Khan said that hosting international boxing events in Pakistan will significantly promote sports activities in the country and also open new doors for sports tourism.
He emphasized that Pakistan is rich in boxing talent but needs structured platforms and consistent support to nurture young athletes. He added that he is fully committed to helping Pakistani boxers gain international exposure.
The former world champion also appreciated the quality of the fights, calling them highly competitive and a positive sign for the future of the sport in Pakistan. He said that the young boxers of Pakistan have the potential to shine at the global level and bring pride to the nation.
Amir Khan also acknowledged the outstanding efforts of the Pakistan Army in making the mega event successful. He thanked the Pakistan Army for ensuring top-class security for all foreign boxers and guests and for playing a key role in the smooth organization of the championship.
He concluded by saying that Pakistan should take great pride in hosting such international sporting events, as they not only inspire the youth but also project a positive image of the country to the world.
