The creators of Sapien.Network erected a monument of Harambe, who became a global meme in 2016, in Bowling Green Park on Monday.

10,000 bananas were also planted around the Charging Bull by Sapien.Network, a projected social networking site “dedicated to putting the needs and welfare of human beings first.”

The artwork, according to the company’s creators, is designed to demonstrate how Wall Street has gone “bananas” in terms of widening the wealth gap between the top 1% of the population and the rest of the country.

Harambe was shot and killed in 2016 after rescuing a 3-year-old kid who had strayed into the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden’s gorilla exhibit. Harambe became a global meme after his death ignited a national discussion over keeping monkeys in captivity.
