ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Friday said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz was in good condition after her throat surgery in Geneva, which last for three hours.

The minister, in a tweet, said the PML-N vice president had extended gratitude to the people, especially the party workers who had prayed and conveyed good wishes to her.

Earlier, Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz left from London to Switzerland’s Geneva, where they will stay for a week.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also be visiting Geneva to co-host the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan along with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on January 9.

The conference is meant to serve as a platform to marshal international support for Pakistan’s flood-affected population.

However, it was learnt that Nawaz will also meet with PM Shehbaz, who is expected to reach the Swiss city on Sunday.

“Nawaz Sharif’s heart surgeon is also based in Geneva and he has made clinical appointments in the city for him,” the sources said, adding that it’s the same surgeon who has often visited the elder Sharif in London at the Avenfield Apartment.

The two PML-N leaders will return to London after a week, as per the sources.

Last year on November 21, the supremo of the ruling party in the centre embarked on a 10-day five-nation European tour accompanied by his daughter and other family members.

It should be noted that the newly-appointed senior vice-president of PML-N has visited the British capital to spend time with her father. Last year in October, Maryam reunited with her father after three years.

It is pertinent to mention here, earlier on Jan 3 2023, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed Maryam Nawaz as the senior vice president of the PML-N, authorising her to “reorganise” the party “at all functional levels”.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, who is also the party’s information secretary, shared the notification issued by PM Shehbaz, the party president.

“Pursuant to the powers conferred under the constitution of the PML-N, the undersigned is pleased to appoint Maryam Nawaz Sharif as senior vice president with immediate effect,” the notification said.

It further added that Maryam was “authorised to re-organise the party at all functional tiers/levels as chief organiser”.

In a tweet, the prime minister said that Maryam possessed the “drive, determination and experience to lead the party’s organisational matters”.

“I have no doubts that she will very effectively galvanise our party’s rank and file with the vision of our Quaid Nawaz Sharif,” he said.
