New scientific research has discovered that penguins can recognize faces as quickly as humans.
Face recognition is as quick in penguins as it is in humans.
According to a recent study, flightless birds can construct mental pictures of their pals, a capacity previously considered to be limited to humans.
Scientists studying endangered African penguins discovered that hearing a member of their colony’s voice might help them visualize them.
According to Professor Luigi Baciadonna, from Turin University in Italy, “The cognitive ability of penguins is underestimated. We found they have a surprising level of human-like intelligence. They could remember and even visualize other colony-mates.”
He added, “Learning and memorizing are demanding on time and energy, so this was quite extraordinary.”
The penguins’ identification skills may have developed to better communication in their rocky and windy habitat, according to Baciadonna.
