A lady purported to own a residence in Southern California so that a locksmith could create new keys for her. She was then taken into custody by the police.
In Coronado, a tourist community over the harbour from San Diego, officers detained a 43-year-old woman on suspicion of burglary Thursday night.
The heinous burglary was thwarted when the rightful homeowner phoned Coronado police to report suspicious behaviour at her residence. Even though the homeowner was out of town, the neighbour noticed the lights in the house is switched on and off.
Officers came, and the homeowner’s neighbour — a relative — offered them a spare key. It didn’t fit the front door lock, though, and there were metal shavings and fragments of an old lock on the ground nearby.
As officers proceeded around the house, they saw the rear doors were open and a fireplace was lit, with music playing inside. Officers noticed someone moving about on the second storey of what was meant to be an empty residence with just one extra key after calling for a helicopter and a K-9 team.
The individual inside was summoned by police, who emerged a few minutes later and was apprehended. Although the woman said there were two children in the residence, a police search uncovered up nothing.
The woman claimed ownership of the house and stated that she had previously hired a locksmith to alter the locks on the front entrance.
There’s no information on whether the thief left anyone with a spare key.
