President of the United States has announced  he would stop funding to the World Health Organization over its mishandling coronavirus pandemic.

Media reports said President of the United States Donald Trump told a White House news conference the WHO had “failed in its basic duty and it must be held accountable.”

Donald Trump said the group had promoted China’s “disinformation” about the virus that likely led to a wider outbreak of the virus than otherwise would have occurred.

It should be noted that The United States is the the biggest overall donor to the Geneva-based WHO, contributing more than $400 million in 2019, roughly 15% of its budget.

The hold on funding expected.

Trump has been increasingly critical of the organization as the global health crisis has continued, and he has reacted angrily to criticism of his administration’s response.

Earlier President of the United States (US President) Donald Trump warned for de-funding World Health Organization (WHO) accusing it to be bias for China.

In his press briefing, US President Donald Trump said;

“They missed the call.

He said They could have called it months earlier.”

“They would have known. And they should’ve known.”

“And they probably did know. So we’ll be looking into that very carefully.”

“And we’re going to put a hold on money spent to the WHO. We’re going to put a very powerful hold on it.”

However, he later said the decision may be re considered.

“I’m not saying I’m going to do it,” Trump later answered.

World Health Organization’s $4.8 billion budget is funded in part by cosponsors, foundations and governments, with the U.S. providing around $111 million in 2017, along with $401 million in voluntary funds.

The Trump administration has already requested a reduction of $65 million for 2021.
