PM Imran, Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz listed among world’s most influential Muslims
The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre, Jordan has added Prime Minister Imran Khan and Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Omar Farooq to the list of the world’s most 500 influential Muslims.
The Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Hurriyat Conference has been among the 500 most influential Muslim figures in the world and 500 highly influential political figures in the subcontinent for the sixth time consecutively.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has been selected as “Man of the Year” while US Congress woman Rashida Tlaib has become “Woman of the Year” as per the report.
The report stated about Dr Umar Farooq that he inherited the 14th Mirwaiz (Kashmiri term for traditional preacher of Muslims in Kashmir) in 1990 at the age of 17 after the assassination of his father and at the young age of 20 he became chairman and founder of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, a grassroots coalition of pro-freedom parties in Jammu & Kashmir.
The center report further said about Mirwaiz “He has raised the Kashmiri problem at the UN, the EU parliament and the OIC advocating dialogue with both India and Pakistan so that the aspirations of the Kashmiri people may be realized,”
After the India’s illegal annexation on August 5 Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is under house.
Mirwaiz also holds a designation of President Mutahida Majlis Ulama, Patron Nusratul Islam, Chairman Awami Action Committee and Patron Darul Khair Mirwaiz Manzil.
