A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is underway in Karachi to sight the Shawwal moon in the country.

Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman is chairing a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee at the Karachi office of the Meteorological Department.

Apart from the members of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, experts of Meteorological Department are also present in the meeting.

Meetings of zonal committees of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee are also being held in other provinces of the country from where evidence will be sent to Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee

Earlier, Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said that according to the lunar calendar prepared by his ministry, Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated in Pakistan tomorrow (May 24).

During a press conference in Islamabad, he said that the moon could be seen in Sanghar, Pasni, Jwani, Badin and Thatta today between 7:36 am and 8:14 am.

The Minister for Science and Technology said that Mufti Popalzai has announced to celebrate Eid in Peshawar tomorrow though there is no possibility of moon sighting in Peshawar even today.

Reacting to the announcement of Eid date by Fawad Chaudhry, Minister for Religious Affairs Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri said that the final decision of Eid according to the Islamic Shariah would be taken by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Karachi today and the people and government of Pakistan would celebrate Eid as per the decision of the committee.

Noor-ul-Haq Qadri said that Shariat and religion trust in the sight and authentic testimonies of the moon, science and modern tools can be used for the sight and testimonies.

It should be noted that according to astronomers and meteorologists, it is unlikely that the Shawwal moon will appear in the country on Saturday. Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to take place on Monday, May 25.
