According to the details, the monkeys attacked the laboratory technician in Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh this week while he was passing through the government medical college.
“The monkeys snatched blood samples of four coronavirus patients and ran away, after which we had to take samples from those patients again,” said Dr SK Garaj, a senior official at the college.
The administration said it did not know if the monkeys dropped the specimens anywhere, but residents on the college campus feared that if the monkeys took the specimens to residential areas, it could spread the virus further.
Dr SK Garaj said it was not yet clear whether the virus would be transmitted to the monkeys if they came in contact with infected blood.
