Pakistan Coronavirus Update: Tally of confirmed cases pass 60,000

The tally of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus also known as COVID-19 in Pakistan has passed 60,000 adding 36 more deaths in national toll.

According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), Pakistan confirmed 36 more deaths from novel coronavirus in one day as the nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 1,260 and positive cases surged to 61,227.

At least 2,076 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours. Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. Till now 22,037 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Punjab, 24,206 in Sindh, 8,483 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3,616 in Balochistan, 2,015 in Islamabad, 651 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 219 in Azad Kashmir.

In the past 24 hours, Sindh witnessed 699 more cases of the novel coronavirus, 919 new cases were recorded in Punjab, Islamabad recorded 136 new cases and AJK recorded 5 new cases of the dread virus.

Patients are under treatment at quarantine centers of 462 hospitals where 7,295 beds are available. Pakistan has so far conducted 508,086 coronavirus tests and 8,687 in the last 24 hours. 20,231 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas many are in critical condition.

On the other hand, State Health Minister Dr. Zafar Mirza has urged the factory and mill owners to ensure standard operating procedures for the safety of workers from the deadly coronavirus. Moreover Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mahmood Khan said the provision of maximum conveniences to the people during the current critical time of Coronavirus at their doorsteps is the priority of the government. Furthermore, Sindh Minister for Information, Local Government, Housing & Town Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the Federal government will discuss province before taking any decision on lockdown.
