SHC orders immediate restoration of emergency wards, OPDs in hospitals

The Sindh High Court has ordered immediate restoration of Emergency Wards and Outpatient Department (OPD) in all government and private hospitals in the province.

The Sindh High Court heard a petition against not treating patients suffering from diseases other than coronavirus.

Petitioner’s lawyer said that a policeman who was suffering from coronavirus died due to lack of treatment. All the hospitals are asking the patients suffering from other diseases to get tested for COVID-19 first. Heart attack patients are dying because of this.

The court expressed anger over the management of public and private hospitals and ordered immediate restoration of emergency wards and OPDs and directed the government to take action against the hospital management for not treating patients other than Coronavirus.

The apex court also issued notice to the head of the Healthcare Commission seeking answers to the questions.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar of Sindh High Court said that it should be explained how patients are being treated in OPD and emergency ward and whether first coronavirus test of patients suffering from other diseases is necessary.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said that the poor turn to government hospitals for treatment. If the attitude of the management of government hospitals is this, how will the things work?

The Sindh High Court has sought a report from the parties on May 19.
