Attempt being made to make PM’s remarks about Osama bin Laden controversial

Dr Shahbaz Gill, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Political Relations, said that an unwarranted attempt is being made at home/abroad with a clear intent to make Prime Minister Imran Khan’s remarks about Osama bin Laden controversial unnecessarily.

In a tweet, Shahbaz Gill said, “Referring to PM’s speech in NA today, it is clarified that PM twice used the word “killed” for Osama bin Laden. An unwarranted attempt is being made at home/abroad with a clear intent to make his remarks controversial unnecessarily.”

“PM’s and Pakistan’s commitment against terrorism is unwavering and our track record in eliminating this menace is better than anyone else in the world,” SAPM added.

Speaking in the National Assembly on relations with the United States, Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that Pakistan was facing a lot of “humiliation” despite Washington’s support in the “war on terror”. And then Pakistan was blamed for America’s failures in Afghanistan.

“The United States came to Abbottabad and killed (al-Qaeda leader) Osama bin Laden, martyred him and what happened after that?” The whole world cursed us and made statements against us.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that Pakistan was facing great embarrassment at that time.

Imran Khan was sharply criticized by the opposition for calling al-Qaeda leader a ‘martyr’.

During the National Assembly session, Khawaja Asif said, “Imran Khan called Osama bin Laden a martyr. He brought terrorism to our land. He was a terrorist and Prime Minister Imran Khan calls him a martyr.”

Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, the spokesman for Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, also issued a statement calling Imran a “threat to national security”.

“By calling Osama bin Laden a martyr, Imran Khan has become a threat to national security,” he said.

“If they are martyrs, then what are the status of civilians and members of our armed forces who have accepted martyrdom in al-Qaeda attacks?”

Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that “thousands of civilians were martyred in the attacks of Al Qaeda”.

“What impression does Imran Khan want to give to the new generation?” He asked.

The PPP leader said, “Today Imran Khan has proved himself to be a ‘Taliban Khan’ in Parliament. The Imran Khan-Taliban nexus was made clear by the meetings between the two.”

“This is the same person who asked the Taliban to open offices in Pakistan,” he said.

But Now Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Political Relations Shehbaz Gill clarified that Prime Minister has called Osama bin Laden “killed” twice in his speech

It may be recalled that in May 2011, US Special Forces killed Osama bin Laden in an operation in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad.
