Federal Minister for Civil Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan has said that the degrees of 28 pilots in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been proved to be fake, 4 ghost pilots have been fired in recent days.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the Federal Minister for Aviation said that the lists of 148 suspected licensed pilots have been sent to all the concerned agencies and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is writing against them for criminal investigation.
He said that the inquiry has been launched by suspending 5 persons associated with the licensing department.
Federal Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan said that 2021 is the year of improvement of institutions, we will end political hirings and ensure merit.
Ghulam Sarwar Khan said that our government has not made any recruitment till date, some people are considering our steps as negative, we have started the process of reforms, where what is going wrong is to correct it.
He said that the previous Chief Justice had started the process of verification of degrees in the self notice. The degrees of 648 persons in PIA were fake. There are 753 pilots in Pakistan and 107 are working in foreign companies.
Licenses of 262 pilots are suspicious, says Aviation Minister
He said that the licenses of 262 pilots are dubious, those with CPL and ATPL licenses are dubious, a list of 148 dubious licenses has been sent to PIA and they have been stopped from flying, other pilots with dubious licenses have more than 100. Yes, their details have also been sent on the Civil Aviation website.
The federal minister said that a criminal inquiry would also be held against five civil aviation officials, including Asif-ul-Haq Senior Joint Secretary License, Abdul Raees, Khalid Javed and Syed Aftab.
9 out of 28 pilots plead guilty
He said that the inquiry of 28 pilots has been completed, show cause charge sheet has also been given, 9 out of 28 pilots have confessed to the crime and with the permission of the federal government, they will be dismissed.
The Aviation Minister said that pilots were recruited during the PPP regime, other people have given papers in place of pilots, whose licenses will turn out to be fake, they will face criminal cases.
He said that they are ready to face the difficulties due to grounding the captains. Airlines from all over the world have sacked the captains and we will not have a shortage of pilots.
