Groups of people have destroyed shop windows, looted, and attacked police vehicles in central Stuttgart during night hours.

German police say more than 12 officers were wounded during the attack in South-west Germany.

Stuttgart police say the attack took place as police checked a drug incident.

The city’s police vice-president Thomas Berger told reporters. A 17-year-old was inquired for an alleged drug offense. Several people between 100 and 200 threw stones and bottles at the police on the central Schlossplatz, a large square. After that, more than 400 to 500 people attacked the police. Many of them had covered their faces.

Local politicians and residents were shocked.

The attackers had looted jewelry stores and mobile phone shops. They had also devastated fast food outlets.

Forty shops were damaged and 9 were looted.

Police shot dead black man Rayshard Brooks, 27, outside a Wendy’s outlet in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday night as he found asleep in the drive-through area of the restaurant.

The National Associ­ation for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) said, “We are done dying,” Violence erupted after Brooks’s killing.

Protesters gathered at the fast-food restaurant where Brooks died.
