A 15-year-old pregnant elephant died after eating pineapple filled with flammable material in Malapuram district of Kerala, India.

According to Indian media, the elephant had gone from Kerala’s Silent Valley National Park to a nearby village in search of food, where it had eaten a pineapple filled with firecrackers.

Forest officials say they do not know how the elephant was injured, but people in nearby villages usually carry flammable pineapples to protect their fields from wild pigs.

Forest Department official Ashiq Ali said the elephant may have eaten the fiery pineapple in late April or early May, but the condition of the elephant suggests that it happened at least 20 days ago. ۔

The elephant’s mouth and tongue were badly injured after eating a pineapple full of flammable substances, as well as the inside of the elephant.

The wounded elephant remained standing in the Villar River for three days. Attempts were made to deliver medical aid but all efforts failed and she died on May 27.

An autopsy revealed that the elephant was pregnant, while a case has been registered against the incident and the search for the culprits has begun.

The public is also expressing outrage on social media against the tragic incident and many celebrities have sent condemnatory tweets.
