Asian people are so obsessed with a fair complexion, especially in India and Pakistan the complexion of girls is considered important for their success, good personality and getting a good job or marriage proposal.
That is why the business of whitening creams has been emerging in the Indian subcontinent for decades and such creams also spend crores of rupees on advertising campaigns.
Whitening cream companies hire celebrities for advertising campaigns, so most of the advertisements for such creams show showbiz personalities.
However, there are some well-known actors in India, including Pakistan, who refused to endorse skin-lightening creams despite being offered a hefty amount.
The actresses and singers themselves made the revelation and said that despite the good offer, they did not endorse skin-lightening creams.
The BBC’s journalist Haroon Rashid asked people in his tweet if anyone could tell him the names of Pakistani and Bollywood stars who have never endorsed a skin lightening product.

Bulbulay actress Ayesha Omer said, “Me! I get offered multiple whitening products campaigns every year but been refusing for years. Will not ever endorse any.”
while replying to one of the Tweets she further wrote, “it’s the least I can do to try and change this extremely problematic mindset. I’m sure we have all made mistakes in our careers and knowingly or unknowingly endorsed products which contribute to a larger problem, but we must stop somewhere and change our stance.”

Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏 it’s the least I can do to try and change this extremely problematic mindset. I’m sure we have all made mistakes in our careers and knowingly or unknowingly endorsed products which contribute to a larger problem, but we must stop somewhere and change our stance.

While quoting the Mahira Khan’s Tweet, Afreen Afreen girl Momina Mustehsan said, “Same here Always turned down all fairness product endorsements. The amount of melanin in your skin has nothing to do with how beautiful you are. If we ALL responsibly refuse whitening endorsements, it might cause a shift in the market. We have the power to change the narrative.”
