An African-American man was killed by police shooting in Atlanta on Friday evening.

Police shot dead black man Rayshard Brooks, 27, outside a Wendy’s outlet in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday night as he found asleep in the drive-through area of the restaurant.

The National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) said, “We are done dying,” Violence erupted after Brooks’s killing.

Protesters gathered at the fast-food restaurant where Brooks died.

NAACP said, “We do not have the full right to live in this country,” It urged people to speak against racism. “Business, as usual, may cost us our livelihoods and our lives.”

According to a release by the Fulton County, Georgia, Medical Examiner’s Office, Rayshard Brooks was shot twice in the back. He died from organ damage and blood loss.

The post-mortem performed on Sunday declared that Brooks died due to gunshot wounds.

The Fulton County District Attorney condemned the police officers’ handling over Brooks’s death.

“(Brooks) did not seem to present any kind of threat to anyone, and so the fact that it would escalate to his death just seems unreasonable,” DA Paul Howard told CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield on Sunday.

“It just seems like this is not the kind of conversation and incident that should have led to someone’s death.”

NAACP said in a press release, “It is unconscionable that a country still feeling the sting of the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, would be sitting here addressing another wound dealt to us by the those who have sworn to protect and serve. An oath or declaration from law-enforcement was once accompanied by confidence and expectation from the community. Sadly, that confidence has been marred under the stains of countless incidents in which deadly force by law-enforcement was resolved as the only resort, rather than the last resort. Rayshard Brooks did not deserve to die Friday night. The actions of the Atlanta Police Department underline a systemic issue that has plagued the Black community within this country for centuries. Until this nation is willing to address the systemic racism that has been allowed to manifest itself in police brutality, criminal justice, education, voting rights, economic wealth-gaps, and every other imaginable area that affords us an equal and sustainable life, America remains in breach of contract with the Black community.”
