LARKANA: Prime Minister Imran Khan has termed the mayor system as a successful system in the world and said that the problem of Karachi and Lahore will not be solved unless the mayor is directly elected and has powers.

Talking to the media, he said that the only way to succeed is to devolve power to lower levels adding that powers should be transferred to the lower level.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has made it clear that the Karachi and Lahore issue will never be resolved unless the mayor is directly elected and has powers. He said that 40% of Karachi consists of slums.

The Premier said that he had set up a village council in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and devolved power to the people at the grassroots level. He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab are bringing the best local government system in the history of the country.

PM Imran Khan said that the funds would go directly to the Village Council and in the local government system the mayors of the cities would be elected by the people themselves.

In a conversation with the media, he said that the powers were transferred to the lower level during the Musharraf era.

He said that in the 18th amendment, governance has gone to the provinces. He insisted that
It is important to keep the public informed of government decisions.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the telemetry system would be introduced for distribution of water in the provinces. He said that the telemetry system was deliberately sabotaged but they are conducting an inquiry to find out who is corrupting the telemetry system.

The Prime Minister said that Allah Almighty has saved Pakistan. He said that politics on Coronavirus was unfortunate adding that like Coronavirus, politics is also being played on the locust attacks.

Referring to the country’s economic situation, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the federal budget starts with a deficit of Rs 700 billion.

He said that on merit, goods were distributed in all the provinces through NDMA. Cases were increasing in the United States and India but they were opening lockdown, 34% of the people in India have gone into poverty due to lockdown, he added.

PM Imran Khan said that it is difficult to control the coronavirus unless the people follow the SOPs.

He made it clear that people are not taking the coronavirus seriously adding that violation of SOPs would result in penalties and fines.

Prime Minister Imran Khan claimed that most of the money was distributed in Sindh under the Ehsas program.

According to Sania Nishtar, head of Ehsas program, Rs 60 billion has been distributed under Ehsas program in Sindh.

Note that Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was on a two-day visit to Sindh, visited Larkana and Jacobabad today.
