Punjab govt eases SOPs for coronavirus funeral

The Punjab government has relaxed the standard operating procedures (SOPs) today (Jun 24) about funeral processions and burial of those who died of the coronavirus.

According to the details, Secretary Primary and Secondary Health Care, Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman, trained teams of local government officials would perform the ablution of the deceased with all the necessary precautionary measures.

The sources said that the relatives would also be able to join in the bathing wearing full protective clothing.

According to Capt (retd) Usman, relatives of the dead person would also be able to attend the funeral precessions whereas the condition of a coffin for burial has also been removed.

Earlier, the Punjab government has made the use of face coverings mandatory at all public places, during travel, and during business activities.

The Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD), under the Punjab Infectious Diseases (Prevention and Control) Ordinance, 2020, enforced measures to control the spread of contagious coronavirus in Punjab. The notification was issued for the general public on Saturday.
