The Sindh government has decided to make COVID-19 test mandatory for all passengers arriving at Jinnah Terminal Karachi from abroad and quarantine them as per standard operating procedure (SOP).

Adviser to Chief Minister of Sindh on Law, Anti-Corruption Establishment, and information, Murtaza Wahab said in a tweet that out of all 246 passengers arriving at Jinnah Terminal from Saudi Arabia, 123 have been tested positive for Coronavirus.

He said that Sindh government conducted the test and now the passengers are in quarantine.

It should be noted that the federal government has lifted the ban on national and international flights and announced that coronavirus tests will not be conducted on passengers.

However, the Sindh government has decided to check every passenger coming to Karachi in view of the prevailing situation of COVID-19 and passengers will be kept in quarantine.

On the other hand, Provincial Information Minister Syed Nasir Shah said that the test of  COVID-19 for passengers coming from other countries is in their own interest.

“We are already facing a sharp rise in cases and the death rate has risen from 1%  to 1.7 per cent, so there will be no compromise on medical tests,” he said.

He said that clear instructions have been issued to the health department to check every passenger.

On the other hand, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Political Communication Shahbaz Gill termed the Sindh government as a liar.

He said in his tweet, “As always, a blatant lie. Firstly four provinces were agreed to bring in passengers without a test. Then three provinces and Asad Umar in NCOC said that test should be conducted and finally, the policy was that passengers would be tested on arrival. Please think before you lie.”

It should be noted that the number of cases of coronavirus in Pakistan is heading towards a dangerous situation and after receiving more than 4,000 cases daily for two days, the total number of cases in the country has exceeded the number of infected people in China.

So far, the total number of these cases in the country has reached 856,930 while 1790 people have died due to the deadly virus.

The number of new cases reported so far is 2534 while 62 deaths have also been recorded.
