An explosion has been reported in Neyveli lignite plant in Tamil Nadu. The blast was happened in a boiler, at least six people have lost their lives while 17 others are injured in the blast.

The sources said that many people have been transferred to the NLC hospital, it is to be noted that NLC has their own fire-fighting teams who have rushed to the rescue operations.

A company statement said that the mishap occurred in the morning at 9.45 am, a fire broke out in the fifth unit of the thermal power station-II (210 MW x 7).

The incident was happened when workers were carrying out maintenance activities for resuming operations, the statement added.

The sources also said that rescue teams from Cuddalore district administration has also reached the spot to control the situation.

Superintendent of Police, M. Sree Abhinav confirmed that the death toll has gone up to 6 while 17 other have been injured in the explosion.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed grief at the deaths.

He wrote on Twitter, “Anguished to learn about the loss of lives due to a blast at Neyveli power plant boiler in Tamil Nadu. Have spoken to @CMOTamilNadu and assured all possible help. @CISFHQrs is already on the spot to assist the relief work. Praying for the earliest recovery of those injured.”
