The Iranian Civil Aviation Organization released a report on the downing of a Ukrainian plane in January this year.

In the report, Iran has admitted that the downing of the Ukrainian passenger plane was a human error, the main reason being the wrong direction of the radar of the air defence unit.

According to the report, due to the wrong direction of the radar, a dangerous series of mistakes commenced and even before the plane crashed, several mistakes were made.

Iranian Civil Aviation Organization stated that an Air Defense Unit fired two missiles at the crashed Ukrainian International Airlines Boeing 800-737 without instructions from the Contact Center.

At the time of the crash, Tehran’s air defence system was on high alert, as Iran had previously targeted US military bases in Iraq.

Iran launched the missile strikes on US forces in retaliation for the death of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in a US airstrike in Iraq.

It may be recalled that a Boeing plane of Ukraine International Airlines crashed shortly after takeoff from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Airport on January 8 this year, killing 176 people.

The plane was carrying nine crew members, while the dead included 82 from Iran, 63 from Canada, 11 from Ukraine, 10 from Sweden, four from Afghanistan and three each from Germany and the United Kingdom.

It was immediately reported that the plane was hit by the same missiles. However, Iran denied that the missile was fired, but three days after the crash, Iran admitted that the Iranian army was mistakenly brought down the Ukrainian passenger plane.

Iran’s military says that the attack was carried out due to “human error” after the plane flew near the sensitive site that belonged to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

It was also mentioned in the statement that people who are responsible will be held accountable.

Citing intelligence believed that the plane was accidentally crashed.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Iran has brought down the Ukrainian plane.

Evidence indicates that Iranian missiles mistakenly shot the plane down.

President of Iran Hassan Rouhani has mentioned the statement in a tweet.

Armed Forces’ internal investigation has concluded that regrettably missiles fired due to human error caused the horrific crash of the Ukrainian plane & death of 176 innocent people.
