Karachi Rain: 6 people killed, power outages in most areas
The first monsoon rain was recorded in Karachi, the capital of Sindh province, killing six people, including women and children, while power outages were reported in most parts of the city.
Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Garden, II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Old City Area, Shahra-e-Faisal, Lyari, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and many other areas in Karachi recorded light and heavy rain with strong winds.
6 killed in accidents
According to police, rescue sources and hospital officials, the rain killed six people, including a minor and a woman.
According to an Edhi Foundation spokesperson, a 3-year-old girl, Esha Munawar, was killed when the wall of her house collapsed in Malir’s Solar Society.
In another incident, a 60-year-old woman was killed when a wall of her house collapsed.
Dr Muhammad Saleem, Additional Police Surgeon, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, said Tajan Razzaq, a 60-year-old woman, died when the wall of her house collapsed in Angara Goth, Liaquatabad.
In addition, according to police and eyewitnesses, the roof of a house in Ibrahim Haideri collapsed due to heavy rains, killing two residents of the house, Babar Hussain and Khadim Hussain.
Area resident Kamal Shah said that no ambulance service and medical facility were available in the area and the bodies were shifted from Ibrahim Haideri to Sindh Government Hospital on a rickshaw.
According to a spokesperson of Edhi Foundation, the wall of another house in Ibrahim Haideri area collapsed during the rains, injuring four children who were rushed to Indus Hospital for treatment.
However, They were referred to NICH by Indus Hospital where 9-year-old Umar Din, 7-year-old Haniya Noman died while undergoing treatment while 2-month-old Muawiyah and 3-month-old Alwasha are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
On the other hand, with the onset of rains in the city, power outages in most areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall of 43 mm was recorded in Saddar while 26 mm was recorded in PAF Base Faisal.
Besides, 22 mm rain was recorded at Nazimabad, 10 mm at Old Airport, 12 mm at PAF Masroor and 8.8 mm at Jinnah Terminal, 6 mm of rain was recorded in Clifton, 3.1 mm in Landhi, 1.2 mm in Surjani and 10.6 mm on University Road.
The meteorological department on Tuesday forecast cloudy skies in most parts of Sindh province besides Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Mirpur Khas, Islamkot, Thar Parkar, Nagar Parkar, Hyderabad, Sanghtar, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro and Mithi and predicted the possibility of rain with strong winds and thunderstorms.
Besides, heavy rains are also expected in the lower parts of Sindh during this period.
