Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department focal person Dr Iftikharuddin said that smart lockdown has been removed from 89 areas of the province after a significant reduction in the number of cases in Coronavirus hotspots.

He said that Lockdown was removed from 8 areas of Peshawar, 5 from Mardan, 15 from Nowshera, 8 from Bajaur, 8 from Abbottabad, 5 from Lower Dir, 4 from Buner and Charsadda, 3 from Haripur, Swat and Malakand, 3 from Upper, 2 areas of Chitral, 1 area of Upper Dir and 1 area of Bannu.

The focal person said the government’s ‘smart lockdown policy’ had reduced coronavirus cases by 80 per cent.

He said that no case has been reported from Smart Lockdown areas in Mardan for the last six days while in Nowshera district only one case was reported yesterday as compared to 31 cases reported on June 21.

Elaborating on the issue, he said that only one case was reported from Mansehra district while 32 cases were reported on June 22 and three cases were reported in Bajaur on June 16 as compared to 12 cases reported on June 16.

He added that the number of cases from Swat and Peshawar had dropped by 70%.

More than 50% of patients recover in the province

Note that more than 50% of the patients infected with Coronavirus have been cured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as compared to 48.08% recovery rate from Coronavirus in the country.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said in a report that 27,506 people in the province were infected with the coronavirus, of which 15,052 or 50.42% recovered.

Professor Zia-ul-Haq, Dean of Khyber Medical University, said that the new guidelines have led to a sharp increase in the number of recovering patients.

He said that the initial recommendations for verification of clearance from the virus and permission for discharge from isolation required negative results of the patient’s clinical recovery and 2 RT-PCR taken at 24-hour intervals.

Professor Zia-ul-Haq said that according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization and recent research if a patient does not show any symptoms of coronavirus after at least 10 days and does not show any symptoms or fever for 72 hours without any medication. So it is added to the list of healthy people.
