Pakistan is committed to applying ICJ decision: Foreign Office

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today (July 23) that the country is committed to applying International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s decision of July 17, 2020.

According to the decision, Kulbhushan has been offered a third consular access and a meeting with his father on humanitarian grounds.

The spokesperson of the Foreign Office Aisha Farooqui said in a briefing that the International Court of Justice has given the right of appeal to Kulbhushan Jadhav but India has not responded to Pakistan’s offer of third consular access.

She added that the law ministry has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court on the matter.

The FO said that this year, the forces of India committed 1732 violations of the Line of Control (LoC), killing 14 unarmed civilians and seriously injuring 134.

The statement also said that 353 days have passed since the one-sided and illegal decision by India to annex occupied Kashmir while its killings continue.

The newly elected President of the UN General Assembly is also expected to visit Pakistan and the country has always given access to the LOC to UN observers, she said.

Earlier, The government of Pakistan has filed a petition in the High Court seeking implementation of the verdict of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding the conviction of arrested Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.

According to the details, The petition, filed on Wednesday, seeks the appointment of a lawyer for the Indian national so that he can file a review petition for his death sentence.

It is to be noted that Jadhav was arrested on charges of espionage in Balochistan in March 2016 and sentenced to death by a military court a year later.
