President Dr Arif Alvi has said that the rampant increase in population will always stress the growth of our economy and available resources. This mismatch will keep our nation fighting poverty, poor maternal health, malnutrition & stunting, in a vicious never-ending cycle.

While expressing his views on World Population Day on social networking site Twitter, President said, “We must promote Breastfeeding, the most natural practice, and according to the Quran should be done for 24-36 months. This prevents pregnancy during this period, allowing the mother to avoid malnutrition, & prevents stunting in her child. Ulema have a significant role to play”

“In Pakistan, there are 4Mil unwanted pregnancies because of a lack of contraceptive availability. Our outreach is dismal. Population Task Force chaired by President considers this as the low-hanging fruit that can provide quick results. We are encouraging manufacture in Pakistan,” the President added.

He further said “3-Media has a significant role to play. They did an outstanding job in promoting SOPs in Covid-19. A comprehensive campaign as carried out in all Islamic countries is being planned. As PM said when he asked me to chair the Population Task Force, ‘It is a National Emergency”

Earlier, President Dr Arif Alvi had said Pakistan was facing challenges like growth in population and called upon all the stakeholders to share their responsibility of tackling those issues through joints efforts.
