Shalimar Express collides with a freight train in Rahim Yar Khan

The Shalimar Express from Karachi to Lahore collided with a freight train at Jhetha Bhutta station of Rahim Yar Khan due to which the movement of trains on the up and down track was suspended.

According to DS Railway Shoaib Adil, the accident took place due to not changing the fork and a Shalimar train collided with a freight train coming from the opposite direction.

A spokesman for the railways said that all the passengers on the Shalimar Express were safe in the accident but the driver and assistant driver sustained minor injuries.

The spokesman said that the two coaches of the freight train and the engine of Shalimar Express derailed while the up and down track was blocked due to which the movement of trains was also suspended.

According to the spokesperson, the relief train from Sama Satta and Rohri was dispatched towards the accident and the relief operation will be completed in 3 to 4 hours.

DS Multan has left for the accident site on the instructions of CEO Railway Dost Ali Leghari.

Note that Yesterday at least 19 people have been killed as a train struck a passenger van at an unmanned railway crossing near Sheikhpura.

According to the District Police Officer Sheikhupura Ghazi Salahuddin, 15 pilgrims lost their lives as the Lahore-bound train from Karachi met with an accident near Farooqabad railway station.

According to railway officials, the accident took place at a train crossing without a barrier. All the wounded have been shifted to a nearby hospital, added officials.

All the bodies have been shifted to the hospital and rescue operation has been completed. The wounded were given first aid by locals at the time of the accident.

Railways authorities have cleared the track and train operation has resumed.
