The United Arab Emirates has begun work on the Arab world’s first nuclear plant in Barakah.

Nawab Energy Company, a subsidiary of the UAE Nuclear Energy Corporation, has successfully launched Unit One of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.

The Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in a message on the social networking site Twitter, announced the commissioning of the first nuclear power plant in the Arab world, saying that the team had successfully refueled. The process is complete, I congratulate my brother on conducting a comprehensive test and on this achievement.

Mohammed wrote on Twitter, “We proudly witness the start of Barakah nuclear power plant operations, in alignment with the highest international safety standards. Congratulations on realizing this historic achievement in the energy sector & marking this milestone in the roadmap for sustainable development.”

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said that this is the first peaceful reactor of nuclear energy in the Arab world and the first of its four units has been successfully refueled with nuclear fuel.

The ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, added that the UAE is the 33rd country in the world to install a nuclear power plant to generate safe, clean and reliable electricity.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammed Al-Hamadi, Chief Executive Officer of the UAE Atomic Energy Corporation, said that the Barakah Atomic Energy Power Plant has now become the engine of the country’s development, it will meet 25% of the UAE’s electricity needs. Carbon gas will not be emitted.

Muhammad al-Hamadi, chief executive officer of the Atomic Energy Corporation, added that the project would help diversify the economy and create thousands of high-value jobs through the establishment and supply of a local sustainable nuclear energy industry.
