Police have arrested a third suspect named Bala Mistri in the Lahore motorway gang-rape case during a raid, while the prime suspect Abid Ali still remains at large.
According to the investigation sources, a man named Bala Mistri, identified by the arrested suspect Shafqat Ali as the third person in the Lahore motorway gang rape case, has been taken into custody.
Shafqat Ali was arrested yesterday and he confessed to his crime. Whereas, Abid Ali is still at large and is expected to be arrested soon.
Mistri had remained involved in criminal activities along with Abid.
The Lahore police on Monday arrested a man named Shafqat, an alleged accused in motorway rape case in Lahore.
Shafqat is a friend of Abid Ali, the main accused in the Motorway rape case.
In a major breakthrough in the case, the DNA of suspect Shafqat has matched with the samples collected from the crime scene, security personnel confirmed on Monday.
The police said investigators were interrogating Bala Mistri about the hideouts of Abid.
Shafqat had also told police that he and Abid had tried to rape a woman in Sheikhupura a month earlier but fled as Punjab police arrived on the scene.
Earlier brother-in-law of Waqar-ul-Hassan, co-accused in the motorway rape case had surrendered himself before the police.
According to police, Abbas was in contact with the main accused of the case.
The arrest was made in the light of revelations made by Waqar today.
In his initial statement, the accused Waqar-ul-Hassan had refused his involvement in the gang-rape incident and added that he had nothing to do with the incident.
He had claimed that his brother-in-law, Abbas was using his mobile phone.
